Roberts Vitols wins Titans RX support race in Lydden Hill

July 29, 2019

Latvian rallycross driver Roberts Vītols won the British Junior class in Lidenhill in a difficult battle over the weekend. The British Championship junior class was a satellite race for the Titans RX round. Vītols, who competes in all rounds of the British Championship in the British Junior class, received an invitation to compete in the non-championship race as well. The race in Lidenhill took place at the same event as the Titans RX series rounds. In the competition of six participants on a rainy Saturday, Roberts did not have a successful start. The difficult fifth starting position was drawn for the first qualification, but in the first run one of his competitors spun and crashed Vītols’ car, as a result of which the Latvian started the race in last place. However, from the second qualification onwards, the Latvian turned the race scenario in his favor – starting from last place, Roberts won. In the third qualification, Vītols won at the start, but hit puddles a couple of times, which slowed down his speed, so he finished in second place. The fight continued on Sunday, when the track was drier. A particularly difficult battle was held in the fourth qualifying, in which Vītols won. A similar scenario also in the final, in which in a tough fight for victory the Latvian car was also twisted and pushed. However, the driver withstood all the tests, achieving victory. This time the success has more psychological significance. Firstly, the victory was achieved at an event that brought together many important personalities of the world rallycross, both drivers and important specialists. Secondly, the race can be considered a good training and experience gained at Leadenhill, which will be useful in the remaining stages of the British Championship season. Moreover, the victory at Leadenhill follows previous failures at this track, when possible victories slipped out of hand.
