Latvian rallycross driver Roberts Vītols won a convincing victory in the Junior class at the third round of the British Championship in Pembrokeshire, achieving success in all three qualifying races and the final. The championship will continue with the next round on Sunday. Vītols mastered the Pembrokeshire track quickly – after training, the gravel part caused some reflection, but with the first qualifying race it was clear that Roberts can drive quickly and faster than the others. In the first race, Vītols beat his closest follower Patrick O`Donovan by 4.5 seconds. He also won the other races, while in the final he achieved first place with a 1.1 second advantage over O`Donovan. In this round, the balance of power has changed slightly, but importantly for Robert. So far, the strongest of the home team, Luke Constantine, did not get higher than third place in the first race of Pembrokeshire, neither in qualifying nor in the final. This is advantageous for Vītols in the context of the overall championship standings. After retiring due to a technical defect in the previous race at Leadenhill, it is important for Robert to win as many remaining stages as possible, and to observe the successes and failures of his closest followers. After the Pembry stage, Vītols is third in the overall standings, 11 points behind leader Constantine. A victory in the stage can earn 30 points. This is Robert’s first victory in three stages. In the first race at Silverstone, he finished second, having a fierce battle with Constantine and O’Donovan, but in the second stage at Leadenhill, he retired, having been in a convincing leading position in the final. The participants of the British Rallycross Championship remain in Pembry, where the fourth stage of the series will be held on Sunday.
