After a tough qualifying session that left him only sixth in the intermediate standings of the Supercar Lites category, Roberts Vitols capitalised on the arrival of rain during the final to turn Nysum’s Race 1 entirely in his favour.

With just a fourth-fastest time as his best result before the knockout stages, few would have bet on Vitols on a Saturday dominated by Tobias and Kevin Daarbak, ahead of overall championship leaders Lukas Andersson and Julien Meunier.

Yet the Latvian driver pulled off a masterstroke, emerging from Turn 2 in the lead of a final that became explosive under treacherous weather conditions.

“The level in Supercar Lites this weekend has been incredibly high,” Vitols noted.
“After free practice, there were four or five of us within a tenth of a second. It’s exciting to compete in such a competitive championship where every detail matters. That said, on this track, grid position is crucial, and I have to admit I wasn’t particularly lucky—every time, I ended up stuck in traffic coming out of the first corner.”

Despite his qualifying struggles, Vitols never lost hope.

“Even though I couldn’t quite put everything together in the three qualifying heats, I knew I had the pace. We were matching the benchmarks set by the fastest guys of the day in terms of pure speed. In the semi-final, I managed to grab second place, but honestly, with gaps that tight, it was hard to do any better.”

That didn’t stop Vitols from sealing his third win of the season just moments later—a result that lifts the Team Faren driver to second in the championship standings, only two points behind Julien Meunier, with a four-point cushion over Lukas Andersson.

“Despite the track conditions, I wasn’t stressed before the start of the final. A few years ago, I hated racing in the rain when I was in karting. The only way I found to improve was to spend hours on track with worn tires, learning how to find balance when grip is limited. Today, my feeling behind the wheel in the wet is so much stronger.”

“I got a good start in the final, but we went into Turn 1 three-wide. I had no idea if I was going to make it through, but I managed to take the lead coming out of Turn 2. From there, it was all about reading the track, finding the right lines, and staying as clean as possible. By the end, my windshield was completely fogged up—I really had to be cautious.”

“I kept calm and focused on avoiding mistakes. Honestly, I dedicate this victory to Team Faren, my family, and especially my sister, who’s always played a key role from trackside—and for the first time in 15 years, wasn’t with me this weekend. After my tough qualifying, we spoke over video call, and I promised her I’d finish the day with a result she’d be proud of. I’m glad I kept that promise.”
