Roberts Vitols claims two wins in Denmark and takes a significant step towards securing the FC2 prize

Provento Racing Team and Team Faren driver Roberts Vitols delivered a flawless RallyX weekend at Nysum in Denmark. At one of the season’s decisive events in the battle for the FC2 prize, the Latvian was fastest in every session from practice and all six qualifying heats to both finals and scored the maximum number of championship points available.

This season, there is more at stake in the Supercar Lites class than the championship title alone. The winner of the Supercar Lites Academy will receive a fully funded drive in an FC2 car at the RallyX World Final in Montalegre on 24-25 October. The prize is worth approximately €25,000 and will be awarded based on each driver’s four best race-weekend results of the season. According to the team’s calculations, the result achieved in Denmark mathematically secures the FC2 prize drive for Vitols, although official confirmation is still pending.

The Danish round represented one of the most important moments of the season in the battle for the prize. A maximum score would bring Roberts very close to achieving the team’s main objective, while any lost points would leave his rivals with a realistic opportunity to continue the fight at the season finale in Germany.

“There were several unknowns before the event. I had spent eight weeks in the United States, so we did not know how the long journey, the time difference and the lack of my usual driving rhythm would affect me. During that time, I had no opportunity to drive, train physically, follow racing or analyse data. However, my time in the United States taught me a lot. From the very first run, I was able to concentrate on the right things and focus on my own race. The starts were good, the pace was consistent and I did not make a single major mistake.”

Over the two days, Roberts won all six qualifying heats and both finals. Vitols’ lap times were approximately 0.4-0.6 seconds faster than those of his closest rivals, while he remained consistent and avoided any significant mistakes throughout the weekend.

“There was also a certain level of responsibility this weekend because winning the FC2 prize had been our main sporting objective even before the season began. We knew that, because of my time in the United States, we would most likely be unable to contest the full season and focus solely on the overall championship standings. We came to Denmark with one objective – to win on both days and collect every available point and we achieved exactly that.

“We had already done a great work before the event by analysing last year’s data and preparing the car. We were consistently ahead from the opening practice session and continued to improve our pace and control the racing with every run,” said Roberts Vitols.

Vitols also made a valuable contribution to team’s overall performance. Competing alongside him for Team Faren was 16-year-old Swedish driver Hugo Lundgren, who made his Supercar Lites debut in Denmark. By learning from Vitols’ data, Lundgren progressed from last place in the opening practice session to finishing second behind Roberts in Sunday’s final. Team Färén therefore secured a one-two finish in Sunday’s race.

“Every one of these drivers is capable of being fast, and we can see them improving with each event. This year’s lap times were also faster than last season. The progress of our competitors forces us to keep working and continue searching for ways to become even faster,” said Provento Racing Team Principal Ugis Vitols.

“We were the only Latvian representatives in the championship this weekend, and it is an honour for us to represent Latvia on the international rallycross stage. We feel that we have become part of the RallyX community and that we are genuinely welcome here.”

The team’s attention has already turned to the season finale, which will take place at Germany’s famous Estering circuit on 8-9 August. Vitols’ objective remains unchanged – to fight for victory on both days.

“We want to finish the season in Germany with another two best possible results. Recovering the points lost by missing two rounds will be difficult in the RallyX North standings, and something very significant would need to happen. At the same time, we have a strong opportunity to fight for the overall RallyX South title. We simply need to focus on our own driving and deliver the maximum,” Vitols commented.
