An excellent result was achieved by the local driver Roberts Vītols at the Riga stage of RallyX Nordic, reaching second place in the RX Academy debut race. Roberts Vītols continued to surprise the RX Academy team, demonstrating precise driving in the debut race at the wheel of a Renault Clio, which, by the way, is Roberts’ first turbo car to start the race with. What’s more, in the first race of the day (second qualifying), Vītols managed to defeat the seemingly invincible Finn Rasmus Tuominen. True, in the very next race, Roberts experienced a confusing ride when the spotter sent him into the Joker’s circle on the penultimate lap, being in a fragile leading position, in a direct battle with Tuominen. Perhaps this was the turning point when the possibility of a sensation disappeared. Later, Vītols won his semi-final, but Tuominen was convincing in the final. Second place at the wheel of a foreign car and team is considered a great achievement, which was also noted by the leaders of the RX Academy program. It was recognized that Roberts’ ability to be so close to leader Tuominen was an indicator of excellent quality.
