After the canceled rounds, the British Rallycross Championship, or Five Nations BRX Cup, which began in August, is scheduled to continue this year. Super 1600 class overall leader Roberts Vītols is also preparing for the remaining three rounds.
The British Championship started in August at Leadenhill, but the following rounds at Pembrokeshire and Knockhill were soon cancelled, and later the remaining round in Ireland, at Mondello Park, was also scrapped due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The latest announcements from the championship organizers indicate that the series will continue with a double round at Leadenhill on November 7 and 8 and the final round in Kent before Christmas, on December 19. This means that the entire British championship this year will take place on one track, which has also been sanctioned by the British motor sports governing body, Motorsport UK, in consultation with the owners of other tracks.
It is still being decided whether and how many spectators will be able to attend the Lyden Hill competition, but organizers emphasize that there will likely be restrictions.
Upon receiving this news, the team of Latvian representative Roberts Vītols also expressed their determination and has already started preparing for the upcoming battles. Roberts’ father and team manager Uģis Vītols explains: “It’s nice that we now know the planned next stages. It’s no wonder that they are all scheduled for Leadenhill, because although the track is fast, it is also very complex, which does not allow for mistakes, therefore interesting. The double-stage program also includes a battle in the dark, under floodlights, which will be an additional intriguing element. Fireworks are planned, which should create a great festive feeling. Meanwhile, the December race during the holiday week made us smile – it means that the family will have Christmas in the UK for the first time!”
“We are preparing, our machinery and equipment remained in the UK after the first stage, we are ready in this regard. We are also monitoring the situation in parallel and considering possible steps for next year.”
Roberts Vītols started the season in August with a victory in the first stage of his Super 1600 class. However, the August race was already spoiled by the pandemic, as several athletes scheduled for the class did not make it to the race.
