The next rounds of the British Rallycross Championship will be held in Pembrokeshire on Sunday and Monday. Roberts Vītols will once again compete in the Supercar class, while Roberts’ younger sister, Laura, will make her debut in the Junior class of the British Championship.
Roberts Vītols, after a successful first weekend in the Supercar Championship, was faced with a choice – to continue the “accidentally” started fight for the overall medals, or to look for other solutions for the season. We remind you that Roberts started the first round of the championship in Leadenhill, because in the previous season, as the champion of the Super 1600 class, he had received a paid race in the Supercar classification. The debut turned out shockingly, because Vītols won this round. That weekend also saw the second round, in which the speed increased, but the more experienced car could not handle the heavy load.
At Pembry, Vītols will once again be in the same Citroen C4, continuing his fight for British medals. He is currently fourth in the overall standings, just six points behind overall leader Mark Donnelly.
If Provento Racing and the Vītola family’s decision to continue the Supercar battle wasn’t particularly surprising, then the fact that the Latvians are already going to Pembrokeshire with two pilots is! Laura Vītola, who has no experience in touring car battles and cross-country in general, is preparing to fight in the Suzuki Swift Junior class. A few weeks ago, Laura conducted tests with a CK 125 class cross-kart, but when the British plan became a reality, Vītola sat in a touring car, taking her first steps in sports driving. Since the debut race will be held in Great Britain, one of the training elements was to sit next to Robert on the right side, and shift gears with her left hand – an imitation of right-hand steering.

It should be noted that this idea – Laura’s start – was promoted more by Peter Gwynn, whose team Roberts once debuted in the Junior class. The British specialist made an offer in Laura’s direction, to which Vītoli hesitated and asked for time to think. However, Gwynn replied that there was no need to waste time thinking; instead, we need to do what everyone involved really wants. After a short time, photos arrived from Britain, in which Provento stickers were already stuck on an orange Suzuki, and the name of the young motorcyclist was pasted in the window. The Latvian side had no way of retreat.
The third round of the championship will be held in Pembrokeshire on Sunday, and the fourth round on Monday. Eight participants have entered the Supercar class, and nine athletes have entered the Junior class.
